Caring Team Partnership with Schools

The Caring Team began in 1989 in western Pennsylvania as a way for schools and area corporations to support children in our own towns, school districts, and communities.

The first campaign for uninsured children started with 20 schools and four corporations. Since that time, more than 450 schools and many corporations have participated in the Caring Team and have raised more than $5.5 million (including Highmark matching funds) to support the needs of grieving children.

Over the years, the Caring Team has helped thousands of children. We are grateful for and inspired by the example students and teachers have set by giving back to others. As Fred Rogers, Honorary Chairman of the Highmark Caring Foundation remarked, "Anyone who does anything to help a child is a hero to me."

There are three Caring Teams in Pennsylvania: Southwestern PA, Northwestern PA, and Central PA. Each team works to raise awareness of the needs of grieving children and to share stories of the hope and healing that many grieving children and families have found through the Caring Place.
