Highmark Caring Place honors volunteersJune 30, 2010 | Lemoyne, Pa. The Highmark Caring Place will recognize 171 Central Pa. volunteers this evening at a reception in their honor beginning at 7 p.m. at the Radisson Penn Harris Convention Center, Camp Hill. These individuals have collectively volunteered more than 6,981 hours an average of nearly 41 hours each during the past year in support of grieving children, adolescents and their families at the Caring Place facility in Lemoyne, Cumberland County. "Volunteers are critical to our ability to help children as they grieve the death of a loved one," said Terese Vorsheck, Highmark Caring Place Director. "Volunteers create a safe environment for children to share their memories and feelings, to receive encouragement or simply to know that they are not alone." Caring Place volunteers serve a variety of roles, including peer group facilitators, food servers, family greeters, quilters and more. Volunteers who work directly with the grieving children and adults in the group sessions complete an extensive 26-hour training session. The Highmark Caring Place provides peer support for grieving children and their parents or guardians at no cost to the families. At the event, the Caring Place will give special recognition to several individuals for their five years of volunteer service. They include: Cumberland County
Dauphin County
Perry County
York County
