Highmark Caring Place remembers 9/11 and the toll death takes on children every day
Death does not enter the life of a child quietly. It crashes in, and nothing is ever the same. That happened in a big way for many children and families a decade ago when we experienced the terror attacks on our nation on Sept. 11. But each day, children in communities everywhere must cope with the death of a loved one. The Highmark Caring Place, through its four locations in Pennsylvania as well as via the online support materials it makes available helps those in need here and worldwide.

Caring Place launches Holding on to Hope campaign with special butterfly
Holding on to Hope was created in connection with Children's Grief Awareness Day, a national initiative started three years ago by the Highmark Caring Place to help raise awareness about the need for support of children grieving the death of a loved one and to let these children know they are not alone.

Mother's Day can trigger grief
Many things can trigger a return to grief, such as Mother's Day for those who have lost their mothers, a U.S. grief expert says. Terese Vorsheck, director of the Caring Place, says on Mother's Day and year-round, the facility has resources available to children experiencing this holiday after their mother's death. The Mylan Classic, part of the Nationwide Tour, partners with Highmark Caring Foundation
The Mylan Classic, hosted at Southpointe Golf Course, has announced that 100 percent of all ticket sales will be donated to participating charities, including Highmark Caring Foundation. Last year the program generated over $270,000 to participating non-profit organizations.

Portrait artist Dana Bellis to donate 20 percent of sales to Highmark Caring Place
For over 20 years, Dana of Millersburg, PA has been honing his portrait work. Over that time he has done paintings and illustrations of children, parents, pets, and families. Through this work, he has seen first-hand the impact that death can have on a family. As expression of his commitment to the community, Dana has partnered with the Caring Place by choosing to donate 20% of sales to the Caring Place.

Children's Grief Awareness Day continues long after November commemoration
Two months after the third Children's Grief Awareness Day was observed by tens of thousands across the nation, the message and the support continue to reverberate. The significance of Children's Grief Awareness Day was felt strongly on Nov. 18, 2010, and has reached far beyond that single day.

Highmark Caring Place tools available to help grieving children and families cope during the holiday season
The holiday season is often difficult for those grieving the death of a loved one. At a time when many people celebrate with family and friends, there are some who are coping with the death of a loved one. The Highmark Caring Place, A Center for Grieving Children, Adolescents and Their Families, offers peer support groups, referral services and a variety of online resources for those who are experiencing feelings of sadness and loneliness following a death.

Fourth annual "Children's Grief Awareness Day" on Nov. 17 will raise awareness about the needs of grieving children
This Thursday, Nov. 17, children, schools and communities throughout Pennsylvania, across America and worldwide will unite by wearing blue to commemorate "Children's Grief Awareness Day." Now in its fourth year, the Highmark Caring Place, A Center for Grieving Children, Adolescents and Their Families, founded this observance day to focus attention on the impact death has on children and what people can do to help a grieving child.

Highmark Caring Place "Holding on to HOPE" butterfly campaign takes flight
The Highmark Caring Place introduced Children's Grief Awareness Day three years ago to help raise awareness of the impact of death on children and need to support children who are grieving the death. In 2010 the event grew to become a national observance. This year's event, set for Thursday, Nov. 17, will become international through the introduction of a new element to the annual observance day, the "Holding on to HOPE" butterfly campaign.

Highmark Caring Place to honor Warrendale/Cranberry region volunteers
The Highmark Caring Place will recognize 132 volunteers at a Wednesday, July 20 reception at the Chadwick Meeting and Banquet Center in Wexford. The event will begin at 6 p.m. The individuals being honored have collectively volunteered nearly 6,500 hours throughout the past year to support grieving children, adolescents and their families at the Caring Place.

The Highmark Caring Place will recognize 175 volunteers at a Thursday, June 30, reception at the Radisson Penn Harris Convention Center in Camp Hill. The event is set to begin at 7 p.m. The individuals being honored have collectively volunteered nearly 6,000 hours throughout the past year to support grieving children, adolescents and their families at the Caring Place facility in Lemoyne.

Highmark Caring Place to honor Pittsburgh-area volunteers
The Highmark Caring Place will recognize 173 volunteers on Monday evening at a reception beginning at 7 p.m. at the Wyndham Grand Hotel in downtown Pittsburgh. These individuals have collectively volunteered more than 10,000 hours an average of nearly 58 hours per volunteer throughout the past year in support of grieving children, adolescents and their families at the Caring Place facility in Pittsburgh.

Highmark Caring Place to honor 132 volunteers and celebrate a decade of service to the Erie community
As the Highmark Caring Place celebrates ten years of service to the Erie community this year, 132 local volunteers will be recognized at a dinner in their honor on June 24. The event will be held at the Ambassador Banquet and Conference Center.
