Critters

Suggested Group(s): Young/Middle/Teen

Purpose: To engage young children in making a 'critter' and sharing information about it.

Task/need: Group Building

Activity Setup Ideas:

  • Ask group members to make a critter out of model magic. The critter can be a real creature or something imaginary.

Materials:

  • Model Magic
  • Markers
  • Beads, eyes or other embellishments

Description: Group Members are given model magic to make a critter. They can use beads, eyes, jewels or other embellishments to create their creature. When everyone is done, each is given the opportunity to share this information about his/her critter:

  • What is your critter’s name?
  • Where does your critter live?
  • What characteristic(s) does your critter have?
  • What does your critter eat?
  • What does your critter like to do for fun?
  • In what way is your critter like you?
  • Has your critter ever had someone in its family die?

Activity Wrap Up Ideas:

  • Invite group members to share their critters and the answers to the 'critter questions.'
  • Thank the group for sharing

Suggestions: This activity works well for new groups or as an orientation activity
