Personal/Group Logos

Suggested Group(s): Middle/Teen

Purpose: To reinforce the child's sense of identity, identify group similarities and help group members get to know each other.

Task/need: Developing a new self-identity, living on the grief spiral

Activity Setup Ideas:

  • Ask the children, "What makes you a unique person?" "What are your favorite things to do, eat, watch and enjoy?"
  • Show a corporate logo and explain to the group that corporations are recognized by a specific logo or symbol. (McDonalds arches, the Highmark Caring Place heart and butterfly, Apple Computer's Apple, etc.)

Materials:

  • iPads; Apps: Flip Ink, Pic Collage

Description: Go online and show the group different corporate logos explaining that each logo represents the corporation's own identity.

Personal Logos can be created using the computer by importing graphic designs and or other art found online. These images/designs are manipulated to create a personalized logo reflecting the individual's self-identity.

Each person is given time to create their personal logo. This logo should reflect their personality, their interests, their major or anything they would like other people to know about them.

Activity Wrap Up Ideas: Reflect on any changes in how the children see themselves now versus how they saw themselves before the death of the family member. How might these changes be reflected in their logos?

Allow the opportunity for group members to share their logos and look for similarities between logos.

Group Logos can be created to represent the identity of the group and used as a group building activity. The members of the group can work together to learn about one another and develop a logo incorporating each person in some way. The group may also want to decide on a group name. The logo/name could be placed on the door to their group room.
