Future Photo Album
Suggested Group(s): Middle/Teen
Purpose: To explore ideas, fears and dreams about how they view themselves in the future
Task/need: Living on the grief spiral, developing a new self-identity
Activity Setup Ideas:
- Ask, have you ever given thought to how you think your life may be when you become an adult?
Materials:
- Construction paper
- Hole punch
- Paper fasteners or rings
- Magazines
- Markers
- Glue/glue sticks
Description:
Bind several pieces of paper to create an 'album' in which to illustrate the following questions:
- What will you do for a living?
- Where will you live?
- What will you enjoy doing?
- What will your family look like?
- What might you wish to share with the person who died about you in the future?
Allow the children to draw or select magazine pictures and words to depict how they see their future lives.
Activity Wrap Up Ideas: Give group members the opportunity to share their work and talk about why they chose the future illustrations that they did.
Suggestions: At the end of the activity, you may want to encourage the group members to keep them and reflect on them in another 5, 10 or 15 years to see if their guesses about their future were accurate.
