Feelings Go Fish
Suggested Group(s): Young
Purpose: To begin discussing feelings and to provide an opportunity to explore feelings through game and list making. To provide an opportunity to continue adding feelings to the list
Task/need: Group building, approaching the pain of the loss
Activity Setup Ideas:
- Brainstorm to build a list of different feelings that a person may have and discuss what things may happen that cause people to feel these feelings.
Materials:
- 52 index cards with feelings written on them - 4 each of 13 different feelings. (These may not be the same as those on the list, but hopefully there will be some overlap)
Description: Play like regular "go fish." The goal is to collect a complete matching set of a given feeling. Once a player gets one set of a feeling, he/she discusses a time when he/she has felt that way.
Activity Wrap Up Ideas:
- If this activity can be carried over to the next meeting, ask the kids to keep thinking about feelings that can be added to the list of feelings created by the group.
- As always, thank the children for sharing.
