Caring Place Structure

Suggested Groups: Young/Middle

Purpose: To allow the children to reflect on their time at the Caring Place and how it touched them

Task/need: Living on the grief spiral; developing a new self-identity, experiencing continued support

Activity Setup Ideas:

  • Ask the children about their time at the 'Caring Place.' What has been helpful and what has been difficult. Do they feel that it was a good idea to come to the Caring Place and would they recommend it to others in their situation?
  • Discuss the concept of how the children in the group now represent the 'experts' from their point of view.
  • How would they build a Caring Place?
  • What rooms should be included?
  • What should it look like?
  • Who would be in the rooms?

Materials:

  • Wooden blocks
  • Paper
  • Small play figures
  • Cars, etc
  • Crayons/markers

Description: Have children think about the Caring Place and what it means to them. As a group build their own 'Caring Place.' Leave the project open ended and respond to what the children build. Ask questions about what they are adding in their 'Caring Place' and why they are adding them.

Activity Wrap Up Ideas:

  • Review the building with the group, asking about what went into the building and any unique features of the building.
