Purpose: To provide an opportunity to think of the characteristics that they remember of the person who died
Task/need: Converting the relationship…to one of memory
Activity Setup Ideas:
- Ask, "When you think of the person who died in your life, what do you think of?" "Are there some things that the person liked to do, some characteristic (like funny, energetic, or loving)?"
Materials:
- Paper — colored copy paper or construction paper
- Markers
Description: Write the name of the person who died vertically on the paper. Write words that use the letters of that person's name and remind the children of the personality or characteristics of the family member horizontally.
Activity Wrap Up Ideas
- Have the children write the name of the person who died vertically on a piece of paper.
- The children then write down words, sentences or phrases which remind them of the person, using the letters of the name.
- Allow the children to decorate the paper in any way that they wish to memorialize the person who died.
