Art Grab
Suggested Group(s): Middle/Teen/Adult
Purpose: To reflect on one or more themes that these cards evoke in ones own experience
Task/need: Varies based on the theme presented to the group
Activity Setup Ideas:
- Wonder with the group members about the times that they have seen a picture, read a book, seen a movie and felt it reminded them of themselves, someone they know or the person who died.
- Present the cards as a way to see the things that remind them of the topics listed below.
Materials:
- One set of art cards (available at each Caring Place site from staff)
Description: The set of art cards represents a selection of artwork reproduced on post cards from a variety of sources. The artists, medium, themes and styles will vary throughout the set — the key is to get a good variety of cards.
Spread the cards in the middle of the table. Allow the group members to sort through the cards to select one or a series of cards that represents the topic desired, such as:
- About you — (group building)
- About the person who died — (converting the relationship…to one of memory)
- Those around you — (living on the grief spiral)
- About your grief journey (a series of cards — living on the grief spiral)
- About your life journey (a series of cards — living on the grief spiral)
- Any other topic that can be addressed with the art cards and is appropriate (see staff for guidance)
Activity Wrap Up Ideas:
- Allow each group member to share
- Point out commonalities and themes
