Emotions Photos

Suggested Group(s): Preschool (older)/Young

Purpose: To explore and express feelings in order to be able to approach the pain of a death

Task/need: Moving toward the pain of the loss

Activity Setup Ideas:

  • Talk to the group about different ways that they can feel. Some may be angry, happy, sad, etc.
  • Brainstorm with the group to develop a list of feelings words.

Materials:

  • Digital camera & printer
  • Permanent marker
  • Poster board or construction paper
  • Tape

Description: Once a list of feelings has been developed, ask the children to show how a person may look when having a particular feeling. Take digital pictures of the young children showing different feelings on their faces and label them with the feelings. Mount these pictures on a poster board or construction paper and hang in the room. Consider adding feelings throughout the session as new feelings are discussed.

Activity Wrap Up Ideas: Review the feelings pictures taken and engage in discussion about when the group members may have felt that feeling.
