Object Grab
Suggested Group(s): Middle/Teen/Adult
Purpose: To explore objects that evoke thoughts or memories of self, the person who died or others
Task/need: Group building, converting the relationship from presence to memory
Activity Setup Ideas:
- Talk with the group members about times that they have seen an object that reminded them of themselves or the person who died.
Materials:
- Basket(s)
- Various items such as knick knacks, small toys and keepsakes
Description:
When used as a group building activity:
- Allow the group members to sift through and view the items contained in the basket
- Ask each member to try to find something in the basket that speaks about them
When used as a memory sharing activity:
- Allow the group members to sift through and view the items contained in the basket
- Ask each member to try to find something in the basket that speaks about the person who died
Once the group members have chosen an item, allow each to share about what they selected and why.
Activity Wrap Up Ideas:
- Note any commonalities or themes that came through in the activity
- Thank group members for their sharing
