Hearts
Suggested Group(s): Preschool/Young/Middle/Teen/Adult
Purpose: Allow group members the opportunity to say goodbye to each other and what has changed for them since coming to the Caring Place
Task/need: Group structure
Activity Setup Ideas:
- Have group members work on their hearts in their individual groups. The hearts are then brought to the closing ceremony to be shared with the larger group.
Materials:
- Red hearts cut from construction paper
- Marker
Description: Each group member is given a heart and a marker. Group members are encouraged to write something on the heart that they learned at the Caring Place or that has changed in their life since coming to the Caring Place. These can be discussed in the small group if the group would like. Alternatively, they can be saved to be shared in the larger group for the closing ceremony. In the larger group, each group member is given the opportunity to share what they have written on the heart as a way to say goodbye to the group.
Activity Wrap Up Ideas:
- Thank the group for all of the hard work done during the session.
Suggestions: If this activity has not been planned by the staff for the closing ceremony, it can be done in the individual rooms as a way to say goodbye to each other.
Another version of the activity is to have group members write an encouraging message to the new families who will be entering the Caring Place during the next session. The messages can be displayed in the room to give hope to new families beginning a group.
