Activity Description:

The purpose of this activity is to help kids identify different feelings experienced since their person died while using color to express their identified feelings. Read the book Star Wars Search Your Feelings. Throughout the story or at it's conclusion, invite the kids to share:

  1. If they have had feelings like the Star Wars characters were experiencing.
  2. Times that they have experienced those feelings.
  3. Feelings they have felt since their person(s) died.

As a group, create a list of feelings they have experienced since their person died. Provide each child with a color guide. Have the kids list their feelings and assign a color that represents each feeling.

Pass out the Lightsaber coloring sheet and let them know they will be coloring the sheet to represent the different feelings they have listed on their color grids. Let them know that the amount of color they use will represent the amount of that feeling that they have had, i.e., if they have been feeling angry a lot and red was their angry color, they would color more of their Lightsaber red. When they are finished, allow the kids to share their Lightsabers with the group.

Some processing questions for the kids can include:

  1. Tell us about the colors you chose.
  2. What colors/feelings do you have the most? The least?
  3. Help the kids in group see commonalities in their feelings.
