Letters to the Future You
Suggested Group(s): Teen
Purpose: To provide an opportunity to project ones self into the future and imagine what the future may hold.
Task/need: Develop a new self identity, living on the grief spiral, experiencing continued support
Activity Setup Ideas:
- Begin by having the group imagine themselves in another 10 years. What do they expect to be doing? What do they think that they will have learned about life by then? What accomplishments will they have reached?
Materials:
- Paper
- Pens, pencils or fine tip markers
Description: Have group members write a letter to themselves in another 5, 10 or 15 years. Include the types of things that were discussed in the activity warm up, and also have them explain to their future selves how if feels to be them today and what they hope it will be like to be them as older individuals.
Activity Wrap Up Ideas:
- Discuss the activity and the thoughts and feelings that it brought up in group members.
- Allow any group members who wish to share pieces from or their entire letters.
