Task/need: Converting the relationship…to one of memory, living on the grief spiral, developing a new self identity
Activity Setup Ideas:
- Ask the group if they ever received greeting cards from or gave cards to the person who died.
- Talk about the special dates or events for which the cards were exchanged.
- Ask if they will (or do) miss the cards.
Materials:
- Card stock paper
- Construction paper
- Markers
- Scissors
- Glue
- Optional: rubber stamps and ink
Description: Invite the group members to create greetings cards around holidays, birthdays or anniversary dates. The cards can contain a message to the person who died, or to themselves, as they imagine that the person who died would express it.
Activity Wrap Up Ideas: Give the group the opportunity to share the cards and discuss other ways to stay connected to the person who died.
Suggestions: If the group members created cards for themselves, they may want to save them for a special day in which they open the card as a gift from the person who died.
