Original ballet that choreographs the journey of childhood grief and hope to be performed in Erie on March 29

ERIE, Pa. (March 6, 2014) —The Highmark Caring Place invites the Erie community to attend an original ballet that choreographs the experience of childhood grief. Whispers of Light: A Story of Hope focuses on the real-life stories of local children who have experienced the death of a loved one and journeyed through loss and hope with the support of the Highmark Caring Place, A  Center for Grieving Children, Adolescents and Their Families.

A collaboration of the Caring Place and Maria Caruso's Bodiography Contemporary Ballet Company, the performance of Whispers of Light will be performed one night only on Saturday, March 29, at the Warner Theater. All proceeds benefit the Highmark Caring Place.

"The death of someone we love stirs up many thoughts and feelings that are often very difficult to put into words," said Terese Vorsheck, director of the Highmark Caring Place. "This ballet's expression of the children's stories through music and movement allows all of us to more fully understand—and feel—the impact of grief and the power of human support to offer hope and healing."

Through the ballet, the Caring Place, which opened in Erie in 2001, hopes to raise awareness of the effects of grief on children. "This special event gives an artistic voice to children who are grieving but who often feel alone and not understood in the midst of that grief," said Maria Caruso, whose Bodiography company uses ballet and contemporary music to focus on significant societal issues that express our shared humanity.

Tickets for Whispers of Light: A Story of Hope can be purchased for $25-$75 at the Erie Insurance Arena box office or by calling 814-452-4857.
