Highmark Caring Place to honor its volunteers at annual recognition dinners

PITTSBURGH (June 21, 2018) — The Highmark Caring Place, A Center for Grieving Children, Adolescents and Their Families, will host annual recognition dinners at its four Pennsylvania locations this summer to honor volunteers who currently serve grieving kids and families through the organization.

The events will take place in the following locations:

  • Highmark Caring Place in Pittsburgh: June 25 at the Doubletree by Hilton, from 5 to 8:30 p.m.
  • Highmark Caring Place in Erie: July 10 at the Ambassador Banquet and Conference Center, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m.
  • Highmark Caring Place in Warrendale: July 30 at the Mariott North in Cranberry, from 6 to 8:30 p.m.
  • Highmark Caring Place in Lemoyne: Best Western Premiere The Central Hotel and Convention Center in Harrisburg on August 1, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m.

The Caring Place provides grieving children and their families with peer support programs along with education, consultation, and referral services to the families and the wider community. Volunteers work directly with the children and families who come to the Caring Place after the death of a loved one.

"It takes a very special, very compassionate person to offer support to children in what can often be the most difficult experience of their lives," said Terese Vorsheck, director of the Highmark Caring Place. "Caring Place volunteers are extraordinary people who help create a safe space where children and families can find healing and hope at this challenging time."

The special recognition event will provide dinner and gifts for volunteers and will also honor volunteers for landmark years of service. According to Vorsheck, the highlight of the event will be a tribute to the volunteers by a family that has participated in the program.

"This family's story of the impact of the program speaks directly to the meaning of the work of our volunteers," she said.
